Flagbearer of the Nationwide Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has promised within the NDC manifesto that they’ll ban issuance of recent mining leases and actions in forest reserves.
He additionally says they’ll amend the Mineral and Mining Legislation to impose stiffer punishment on mining in water our bodies.
He mentioned these whereas launching NDC 2024 manifesto on Saturday August 24 at Winneba.
Different plans for the mining sector as captured within the manifesto are;
- Decentralise regulatory and licensing processes for artisanal miners.
- Set up Mining Cooperatives in all mining districts.
- Arrange a novel Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) to control small-scale mining.
- Implementing a ‘Tree for Life’ re-forestation coverage with cocoa, palm and rubber.
- Implement a Blue Water Initiative to heal and harness the atmosphere by turning areas and water our bodies degraded by unlawful mining into hubs of financial and ecological restoration.
