Prof J. Asamoah-Gyadu elected as new Presiding Bishop of Methodist Church Ghana


 

Very Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu has been elected as the brand new Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana.

He was elected on Saturday on the ongoing convention of the church on the Wesley Cathedral at Adum in Kumasi.

He’ll take over from Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo who’s ending his tenure in September 2024.

Very Rev Prof Asamoah-Gyadu is the President of the Trinity Theological Seminary at Legon Accra.

On the election held as we speak, August 31 on the 51st and thirteenth Biennial Convention of the church in Kumasi to amongst others elect a brand new chief of the church, Very Rev Prof Asamoah-Gyadu emerged as the brand new chief of the church with 226 votes, representing 53.33 per cent of the votes forged.

The present Administrative Bishop of the church, Proper Rev Michael Agyarkwa Bossman, got here closest with 99 votes representing 23.8 per cent whereas the Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese of the church, Proper Rev Professor Manasseh Edusa-Eyison acquired 82 votes representing 19.7 per cent.

The remainder are Proper Rev Dr Emmanuel Asare Kusi, seven votes (1.68 per cent); Proper Rev Samuel Kofi Osabutey, one vote (0.24 per cent) and Very Rev Consolation Ruth Papafio, one vote (0.24 per cent).

Instantly after being declared the Presiding Bishop-elect by the Most Rev Boafo, Canticle Two was sang by the convention delegates rendering because of God.

In his acceptance speech, the Presiding Bishop-elect, Very Rev Prof Asamoah-Gyadu thank God and the delegates for the chance to serve God.
