The Electoral Fee (EC) has assured the general public that the integrity of the 2024 elections won’t be compromised by a stolen Biometric Verification Gadget (BVD).
This assurance comes after the arrest of a person discovered with a BVD suspected to belong to the EC.
The suspect, 52-year-old Samuel Yaw Koranteng, who claims to reside in Tudu, Accra, was arrested with the BVD on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Following the arrest and subsequent agitations, the EC in an announcement assured that it takes the difficulty of an unauthorised individual possessing a BVD very severely.
“The general public might recall the theft of 5 laptops which fashioned a part of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) Kits from our shops in April 2024, in addition to the vandalization of 5 BVDs and theft of two BVDs from Tarkwa Nsuaem District and North Tongu District respectively throughout the December 2023 District Degree Elections (DLEs).
“The fee defined {that a} BVD within the fingers of an unauthorised individual can’t be used to compromise an election. It doesn’t have an effect on the integrity of an election.
“It’s nothing greater than an off-the-shelf machine and can’t be used to compromise an election, with out the required technical and safety protocols,” the assertion stated.
The fee has since launched an inside investigation and can work with the police to resolve the matter.
Under is the assertion from the EC.
